Maya Weug gave Dutch racing fans a reason to cheer early on Saturday morning. In her home country, she proved to be the fastest woman on the track during the F1 Academy qualification: pole position.
Weug, a Ferrari protégé, represents MP Motorsport in the F1 Academy. The academy has been included in the pre-program of Formula 1 in Zandvoort. Weug and her colleagues have two races scheduled in the Dutch dunes.
Two other Dutch women will also be participating: Nina Gademan qualified eighth in her home country, and rookie Esmee Kosterman – who received a wildcard for this weekend – finished a commendable ninth. For the first race, the top eight start in reverse order. This means that Gademan will start at the front on Saturday at 15:05 UTC. Weug will do the same on Sunday morning in the second race (08:40 UTC).
