The entire racing world watched in astonishment as Max Verstappen drove from seventeenth to first place in São Paulo on Sunday. In the rain, no one could outperform the three-time world champion. Red Bull team boss Christian Horner even received a call from Bernie Ecclestone – the former Formula 1 boss congratulated him on this impressive triumph.
Christian Horner reflected on the weekend in Brazil and Max Verstappen’s brilliant victory in a conversation with The Mirror. In a chaotic rain race, the Dutchman achieved his sixty-second win. He shot from P17 to P11 at the start alone, quickly advancing to the front. Horner is understandably immensely proud of his driver and revealed that several Formula 1 figures – including Bernie Ecclestone – wanted to congratulate him.
“Bernie (Ecclestone) called me after the race,” revealed the Red Bull team boss. “He said: ‘I’ve seen all the greats race, but this is one of the very best performances I’ve ever seen’.” Horner values the commentary of the 94-year-old Ecclestone highly. The British businessman and former Formula 1 boss has seen countless greats race. “He (Ecclestone) is a bit older than me and has seen a bit more,” Horner joked. “So it means something when you get compliments from such an icon.
