Formula 1 is filled with technical gadgets that even seasoned fans often question.
For instance, Dieter Van der Avoort wonders what the purpose of the hole at the front of the nose cone is, as seen on some teams’ cars (Red Bull, Racing Bulls, McLaren).
Rob van den Heijkant provides the answer: “This is used for the driver’s cooling. Officially according to the regulations, this is the only purpose it can be used for. However, the teams will also use it to cool the equipment located in the nose and front wheel suspension.”
