Max Verstappen, a four-time world champion, is set for a financial windfall next season. Despite clinching the world title again in 2024, he will pay significantly less for his super license for 2025 than he did a year earlier. The reason? Contrary to his dominance in 2023, where he scored a record 575 points, Verstappen had to fight harder for his successes this season. With 412 points, the cost of his new super license is considerably lower.

Understanding the Formula 1 Super License

Every Formula 1 driver must apply for a super license annually to be eligible to race. The cost of this license comprises a fixed base amount and an additional charge per point scored in the previous season. For 2025, the base amount has been raised to $12,097 (€11,453), and each point costs $2,443 (€2,313), a slight increase from 2024.

For Verstappen, this means that his total bill for the super license amounts to $1,079,448, a substantial saving of over $200,000 compared to last year. The Dutchman had to fork out a record amount of $1,286,324, thanks to his historic performances in 2023.

A Costly Season for Norris

While Verstappen saves, his rival Lando Norris has to dig deeper into his pockets. The Brit, who finished second in the championship this season, scored 374 points and achieved four victories – a massive improvement from his 205 points in 2023. As a result, his super license costs have risen from $465,510 to $925,779. Although Norris has indeed had his best season so far, he is facing a hefty bill for it financially.
