Max Verstappen expresses satisfaction with his second-place start for the Netherlands Grand Prix. Despite securing pole position for three consecutive years at his home race, this weekend saw him outperformed by rival Lando Norris. Verstappen admits he didn’t feel in contention for pole this time around.
Lando Norris owes his fastest time primarily to a brilliant third sector. There was a moment when it seemed Max Verstappen might still secure the first starting position. However, the Dutch driver emphasized that he didn’t have the best Saturday in Zandvoort, and therefore never truly felt in the race for pole position.
‘Lando is Much More Satisfied’
“I had a few moments in that last lap,” said Max Verstappen after the race at a press conference. “But that pretty much sums up my entire qualification. There were so many laps where I lost time at certain moments. That made it very difficult. We were constantly on the edge.”
“I didn’t feel like I was competing for pole, so to be on the front row is very positive,” concluded the Red Bull driver. “If you look at the gap with McLaren now, it’s going to be hard to make up time. Lando (Norris) is definitely much more satisfied with his performance. Maybe it will get a little better tomorrow, but we’ll see. Anything can happen.”
