Max Verstappen serves as a significant role model for young children, as observed by Jan Lammers during the Dutch GP in Zandvoort. The sporting director is full of praise for the way Verstappen handles his status as a role model.
Lammers, more than anyone else, witnessed the impact of a champion like Max Verstappen on fans who travel from far and wide to Zandvoort to marvel at the Dutchman and the other nineteen F1 heroes who make their appearance.
“I think Max is a fantastic icon and truly a role model,” asserts Lammers. “Of course, he can get angry in the car, and people have commented on that in the past. But Max simply cannot stand injustice; he is very genuine. And loyal, honest too.”
According to him, these admirable qualities did not go unnoticed by the audience in Zandvoort. However, he believes that Verstappen is not the only source of inspiration for young fans in the dunes. “I think the inspiration for children also lies in the whole story, so the entire experience and the entire sport. They think: ‘Wow, I want to do this too.’ They are touched by Max, and certainly by the whole racing scene.”
