An initially rather uneventful year takes an unexpected turn thanks to Max Verstappen. Five editors and three columnists share their personal memories of Verstappen in 2025 in a short contribution. Part 3: Gwen Kleverlaan on fatherhood.
Actually, I can’t pinpoint a single specific moment from Max Verstappen’s Formula 1 season, it’s primarily one development that has caught my attention recently. For me, it’s about something that begins off the track: this is the year Max became a father. A change that, as it is often said, makes drivers more cautious and sometimes even a fraction slower. But it’s precisely this cliché that Verstappen completely dispels this season.
Where you would expect the risks to weigh heavier and the absolute sharpness might decrease slightly, the exact opposite happens with Max. In the qualifications, he continues to record lap times that make you wonder how he manages to achieve them at all. And in the races, he still drives at the limit. Week after week, he demonstrates that, in my opinion, he is still the best driver in the field.
