Nico Rosberg is eagerly anticipating Max Verstappen‘s race weekend at the Nürburgring. The four-time world champion will swap a Formula 1 car for a GT car this coming Saturday and Sunday, aiming to secure his racing license for the famous German circuit. “The whole world will be watching,” predicts Rosberg.
Max Verstappen is set to compete at the Nürburgring this coming weekend, as confirmed by Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko on Tuesday to Autosport. During rounds seven and eight of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS), the Dutchman will take the wheel. However, before this can happen, the world champion must complete a mandatory licensing course.
Nico Rosberg has also heard about Verstappen’s racing plans and thinks it’s ‘fantastic’ that he will be found in a race car even during his free weekend. “It’s truly incredible for all of us and for the other drivers,” says the 2016 F1 world champion in the Sky F1 podcast. “With 24 races in a season, you’re already living life in the fast lane. All you want then is to spend some time at home, do a bit of training, and see the kids.”
However, Max Verstappen has different plans for the weekend preceding the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. “He’s going to school to get a license so he can race in the B-class on Saturday and hopefully be in the A-class by Sunday. It’s incredible, it’s so cool. The whole world is going to be watching, and I myself will be tuning in on Sunday to see how he does,” he said.
Track Record
This is not the first time Verstappen will be driving a GT car on the famous Nürburgring. He previously tested – under the now well-known name Franz Hermann – with a Ferrari GT3 car, and immediately set a track record. “There has been so much talk about his record over the past five months,” Rosberg continues. “Of course he can set that record. He is the most talented car driver in the world. And it doesn’t matter what car he gets into, he will drive faster than anyone else. Of course, he’s going to do incredibly well.”
