Former Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto, who was replaced by Fred Vasseur in 2023 after four years of loyal service, is no longer a mere spectator. He now holds a top position at Audi’s future Formula 1 team. Under Vasseur, Ferrari has seen moderate success this season, but according to Binotto, it’s not a revolution.
When asked by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera about the current state of affairs at Ferrari, and whether the team has changed under Vasseur’s leadership, Binotto responded, “Fred (Vasseur) has simply continued the project. He hasn’t brought about any revolutions; the organization was already well-structured and functioning well, although he has, of course, made his own choices.” One of Vasseur’s choices was to sign Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season, a move that Binotto has his own thoughts about.
Despite his new role at Sauber and the future Audi team, Binotto remains a secret Ferrari fan. “Whenever Ferrari wins, I’m always happy,” he shared. “I know the team well and I understand the effort that has been put into improving the performance.” Before being replaced by Vasseur, Binotto had worked for Scuderia for more than twenty-eight years.
‘Positive Period’
“That period brought me so much beauty,” he explained. “I’m very happy that I was able to be part of an extraordinary team and contribute to some fantastic victories. The role of team boss was a wonderful challenge. We laid the foundation for a solid organization and built a strong team of young talents.”
“All in all, it was a very positive period,” Binotto summarized his time at Ferrari. “I made many beautiful memories, but also learned from my mistakes. I still keep many photos and objects from that time at home. Today, I’m simply happy when I see the red team win, because I know I contributed to it.”
