The 2025 season has not even started yet, but anticipation is already building in Madrid for the following season. The street circuit in the Spanish capital will take over from the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in 2026 to host the Spanish Grand Prix. The Madrid street circuit has now also been given a new name: Madring.

“Formula 1 circuits are often referred to by the city or region where they are located. This is the case, for example, with Monza, Imola, Interlagos, Spa, Silverstone, Miami, and Las Vegas,” explains the organization behind the street race in Madrid in a statement. The promoters hope that the unique naming of the Madrid street circuit will make the Grand Prix stand out.

The organization aims with the name Madring, a combination of the place name Madrid and the word ring, “for a concise and memorable identity that refers to the host city, which is instantly recognizable worldwide and does not require translation.” The circuit was previously known as the Ifema Madrid Circuit, a reference to the exhibition center located next to the track.

Barcelona

The Madring will replace the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya as the organizer of the Spanish Grand Prix in 2026, but according to the current contract with Formula 1, the race in Barcelona can still organize a race in 2026. It is still unknown what the race in Catalonia will be called during the next Formula 1 season. The Madrid street circuit is guaranteed a spot on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2035.
