Logan Sargeant’s days in Formula 1 seem to be numbered. His significant crash during the third free practice in Zandvoort could be the final straw, and Williams is reportedly considering replacing Sargeant in Monza. Mick Schumacher’s name is surfacing as a potential candidate.
Sargeant lost control of his steering wheel on Saturday in Zandvoort due to wet track conditions, and parked his FW46 in the guardrail at the exit of the Hugenholtz corner. His car subsequently caught fire, but the Williams driver was unharmed. This is just the latest in a series of costly collisions for Sargeant this season.
Who Will Replace Sargeant?
Rumors are now circulating in the paddock that Sargeant’s race in the dunes of Zandvoort on Sunday will be his last in Formula 1. The Daily Express and De Telegraaf reported that Sargeant will be replaced in Monza. The name of former F1 driver Mick Schumacher is most often mentioned as a potential candidate. However, the German doesn’t need to suit up just yet, as Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson is also in the running.
While Williams has not confirmed anything, team boss James Vowles expressed his deep disappointment in Sargeant. “A hundred people worked for weeks on our major upgrade and worked so hard so we could use the new parts on both cars,” Vowles told The Herald. “And then everything was ruined in a second. It was an unnecessary accident. In the third practice in the rain, you don’t take full risk.” Sargeant’s days indeed seem to be numbered.
