Racing Bulls announced this week that Arvid Lindblad will be joining Liam Lawson in the upcoming season. The British-Swedish driver is making the move from Formula 2 to the Italian team. Racing Bulls’ team boss, Alan Permane, expects Lawson to support the new rookie as needed, but the New Zealander remains reserved about how much he can actually contribute.
Lindblad will be making his Formula 1 debut in the coming season, and Racing Bulls aims to guide him through this. Team boss Permane believes that Liam Lawson can use his experience to assist the rookie. “It’s something I’ve discussed with Liam. I don’t expect him to become a mentor for Arvid, far from it, but I do expect him to be there for him,” said Permane. “Okay, he only has a season and a half of experience, but that’s still much more than Arvid has. He should be able, and I also expect him to, help Arvid when things get tough, especially in the beginning and during the test days.”
Lawson is reserved about whether he can support Lindblad. “I expect the team to lean on me a bit because of my experience. But on the other hand, I’ve only had one season myself. You learn a lot in one year of Formula 1, but there’s still much more to learn,” said the New Zealander. With Lawson’s support, team boss Permane hopes that Lindblad can quickly adapt to the high level and pressure of Formula 1, and that he helps him develop faster.
