Liam Lawson’s debut race in Melbourne came to an early end in lap 47. The New Zealander spun into the barriers and was unable to complete his first Grand Prix as a Red Bull driver. However, this has only made Lawson more ‘hungry’ to do even better in Shanghai. ‘Max Verstappen showed that we are moving in the right direction regarding the car’s setup,’ the driver is hopeful.
Liam Lawson had a challenging first weekend in the RB21. After the New Zealander failed to advance beyond Q1 in the qualifying on Saturday, he was unable to finish the race a day later. Meanwhile, teammate Max Verstappen secured the second place. “It was a very tough first weekend in the car, and I can’t remember when I was so eager to get back in,” Lawson is now focusing on the GP China. “I just want a reset this weekend.”
This will be the first time for the New Zealander to race at the Shanghai International Circuit, a ‘cool’, new experience for Lawson. “The sprint format makes it more difficult, as we get almost no time to practice. Therefore, we need to make sure we can get the most out of the first free practice.”
‘Hungry’
Although Lawson’s first race for Red Bull ended in the barriers, the New Zealander draws good hope from the performances of teammate Max Verstappen. “The pace seemed good last weekend, and Max showed that we are moving in the right direction regarding the car’s setup. The weekend (in Melbourne) has only made me hungry to give everything in Shanghai.”
