Lewis Hamilton is reportedly set for a reunion with his old team McLaren in Brazil. The seven-time world champion is said to be stepping into the 1990 McLaren car, in which Ayrton Senna won his second world championship. Hamilton’s demonstration in São Paulo is a tribute to the Brazilian driver who passed away in 1994.

It’s been thirty years since Ayrton Senna lost his life during the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, and the Formula 1 world has been commemorating the three-time world champion all year. According to PlanetF1, Lewis Hamilton is the latest in a series of drivers to pay tribute to Senna by taking a ride in the iconic MP4/5B in Brazil.

Hamilton’s tribute at Interlagos, in Senna’s home country, is part of the ‘Senna Sempre’ event, which translates from Portuguese to ‘Senna Forever’. The event is scheduled for Saturday at five o’clock local time, following the sprint race and the qualifying session for Sunday. Earlier this year, former F1 driver Sebastian Vettel drove in Senna’s 1993 McLaren car during the Grand Prix weekend in Emilia-Romagna.

Hero

Hamilton has often expressed his admiration for the legendary Brazilian driver. “Everyone loves a winner. That’s just how the world works. And Ayrton Senna was one of the greatest winners this sport has ever had,” Hamilton described his idol in a column for the BBC. “But more than that, he was a true hero, an iconic character that inspired people all over the world.”
