In Spain, Lewis Hamilton clinched his first podium of the season. Despite a poor start, the seven-time world champion fought his way back to third place. His overtaking move on Carlos Sainz was particularly daring. “It was on the edge,” the Brit admitted.
“Like Lando, I also had a bad start and therefore lost some positions to the Ferraris,” Hamilton said after the race. “It was a decent fight to get back to third place. I don’t know if we could have kept up with the guys ahead with a better start, but at least I wouldn’t have ended up so far behind them.”
In his battle with the Ferraris, Carlos Sainz was particularly unhappy with the Mercedes driver’s overtaking move. “It was very close, but that’s how it should be, right? Our wheels touched, but it was a fair fight and I gave him enough space. It was on the edge, but there was still room for a piece of paper between us,” Hamilton joked.
