There is a high likelihood of a sequel to F1: The Movie. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that he has discussed ideas for a second installment of the successful Formula 1 film with Lewis Hamilton. The first film, which hit cinemas last summer, became a global box office hit. With an estimated revenue of around 630 million dollars, it is the most successful film that lead actor Brad Pitt has ever made.

Although Formula 1 fans were somewhat divided over F1: The Movie, the film received predominantly positive reviews from cinema audiences. Despite some occasionally implausible storylines, the spectacular visuals and Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt attracted viewers worldwide. The fact that the film was shot during actual Grand Prix weekends – with many drivers making guest appearances – made it a unique cinematic experience. Behind the scenes, discussions about a sequel are now underway.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Forbes that he and Lewis Hamilton – who was involved in the project as an executive producer – have already taken the first steps towards a second F1: The Movie. “We spoke with Lewis a few weeks ago and shared some ideas,” said Bruckheimer. The American emphasized that the audience is still responding enthusiastically to the film. “We are now in London and have shown the film twice a night for the past three days. The first question I ask the audience is: ‘How many of you have not seen this film yet?’ Eighty percent of the hands go up – incredible. The remaining twenty percent have seen it multiple times.”

A Film for Everyone

According to Bruckheimer, the success of F1: The Movie lies in its accessibility. “People who haven’t seen it often say, ‘Oh, it’s not my kind of movie.’ Trust me, it is your kind of movie. It’s emotional, funny, and a perfect night out at the cinema,” he said. Bruckheimer also praised the collaboration with director Joseph Kosinski, the cast, and the Formula 1 organization itself, which made the production possible.

“When you make a movie about Formula 1, you better do it right – and that’s exactly what Joe and our entire team wanted,” he said. “They trained in these cars for four months, starting with a Formula 4, then a Formula 2, and finally our own car. It was an experience we could never have realized without Formula 1. Stefano Domenicali, president and CEO of Formula 1, made a huge effort to make F1: The Movie as authentic as possible, allowing us to film at nine different circuits.”
