Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc will not be present at the Imola circuit on Thursday. A spokesperson has announced that he is not fit enough to attend the media day. For now, the Monegasque is still set to compete this weekend, the team reports. Should he unexpectedly call in sick for the Emilia-Romagna GP, test and reserve driver Guanyu Zhou will likely step in.
Charles Leclerc is absent in Imola! The 27-year-old driver is not feeling well and is skipping his media obligations. “Charles is not fit and will not appear on the circuit today,” said a Ferrari spokesperson. “He will rest and focus on his recovery. We expect him to be back in the car tomorrow,” he added. Leclerc is on the eve of a busy triple header – he is due to kick off with the first free practice sessions at Imola on Friday, followed later this month by his home race in Monaco and the Spanish GP.
If Leclerc remains ill for the rest of the weekend, Ferrari will likely have to deploy test and reserve driver Guanyu Zhou in Imola. The 25-year-old Chinese driver raced for the Sauber team for three seasons between 2022 and 2024, but his contract was not renewed last year. The Scuderia, which lost reserve driver Oliver Bearman to Haas, managed to secure him in a reserve role. Since then, he has been present in the Ferrari garage every race weekend.
