Charles Leclerc is eyeing the upcoming three-way battle in Abu Dhabi with envy: Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and Oscar Piastri are all still in the running for the world title during the final race. Leclerc himself has already fallen to fifth place in the championship. During the last GP in Qatar, the Monegasque had to fight for a place in the points. He followed the battle at the front on the screens along the track, yearning for his own title fight.

Leclerc has not been able to compete for the championship since 2022. At that time, he finished second, behind Max Verstappen. The latter is now facing stiff competition from McLaren. During the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen must outperform both papayas to secure his fifth consecutive title. Leclerc was asked about the upcoming battle at Yas Marina. As he explained how much he would like to be in a title fight himself, he revealed that during the otherwise ‘boring’ GP in Qatar, he tried to calculate the championship standings in his head.

Leclerc Eager for Title Fight

“It’s a tough race,” the Ferrari driver reflected on the upcoming Abu Dhabi GP and the season’s climax. “The points difference is so small that anything can happen. It will probably be between Lando and Max Verstappen, but nothing is ruled out, especially with the added tension. Incidents can play a major role; after all, they’re all fighting for top positions.” Charles Leclerc closely followed the season’s climax, even from the cockpit of his Ferrari. “For me, it was a very boring weekend,” he reflected on Qatar. “During the race, I was able to follow everything a bit on the screens. In my head, I was trying to calculate the championship standings,” he laughed.

“That was the most exciting part of my race; otherwise, it was very boring,” Leclerc sighed. “I hope for an exciting final race in Abu Dhabi. Of course, I would want it to be a fight between four drivers and that I was involved,” he concluded. “I just want to win and fight at the top. It’s fun to watch such battles, but it’s even more fun to be a part of them.”
