It’s official: the Las Vegas Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar for 2026 and 2027. The race’s organization announced this on Saturday. The contract extension was not surprising, as the race along the famous Strip is the only Grand Prix on the calendar for which Formula 1 itself is the promoter.

The inaugural edition of the race in Las Vegas took place in 2023. From the outset, it was declared that the Grand Prix in the famous gambling city is a long-term project. Liberty Media, the owner of Formula 1, has also invested heavily in the race. They even purchased land in Las Vegas, where the paddock and pit lane are set up during the race weekend.

“We have agreed to a two-year extension, so for 2026 and 2027,” said Emily Prazer, CEO of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. “We want to ensure that we continue to develop this race, even though it is essentially a long-term agreement. As we all know, this race has had its challenges, but we always come up with solutions.”

Gradual Extension

“We want to ensure that the event continues to work well for both parties,” the CEO explained, referring to the collaboration between the city of Las Vegas and Formula 1. “We collectively sat down and agreed that this gradual extension is the best approach. As already mentioned, we have long-term plans, but this is where we stand now.” The approach for the Las Vegas GP thus differs from that of Miami, where Formula 1 previously announced a contract through 2031.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix is scheduled for November this year. Max Verstappen won the first edition of the newest race, while George Russell triumphed in the gambling city last year. Vegas was also the location where Verstappen clinched his fourth world title.
