Lando Norris reflects on the moments this season when he doubted his own abilities. The McLaren driver candidly admits that he didn’t always fully believe in himself. Yet, despite these uncertainties, he managed to secure his very first world championship title.
Norris clinched his inaugural world championship title in Abu Dhabi last week. The newly crowned world champion reflects on the challenging moments and the lessons he learned over the past year. “At certain times, I didn’t always have the utmost confidence in myself,” Norris shares. “Sometimes Oscar Piastri simply performed better and I struggled to keep up. Then I thought: ‘Maybe they are just slightly better, they can perform more consistently, they get more out of the car.’ Sometimes I just thought it wasn’t possible. And for me, it’s an incredible feeling to convince myself: ‘No, you’re wrong, you can do this.'”
Norris explains that he learned valuable lessons about his mentality and self-confidence this season. “It’s special to feel that confidence in yourself. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself selfish, but I’ve learned that I sometimes need to be a bit more selfish with these feelings and thoughts. That ultimately helps me become a better and stronger driver.”
