Lando Norris has won the Grand Prix of Monaco for the first time. The British driver also ensures that McLaren can finally add this prestigious trophy to their collection for the first time since 2008. “We’re going to celebrate this properly tonight!”
“It feels amazing!” Norris reflects on the victory with a big smile. “It’s a long race, but we were able to keep the pressure on for a large part. Towards the end, it got exciting in the last corner with Max Verstappen in front of me and Charles Leclerc right behind me. But we won in Monaco and it doesn’t matter how. It was a fantastic weekend with the pole position yesterday and the victory today. This is what I dreamed of as a child.”
Max Verstappen gambled from the lead on a late red flag and therefore decided to make his second mandatory pit stop in the very last lap. “I had everything under control, but it got tough towards the end. Max was leading and slowing things down a bit. And I knew that Charles was waiting for a chance, so I had to manage things well. But I’m happy, the team is happy and we’re going to celebrate this properly tonight,” concluded the McLaren driver.
