Lando Norris was overjoyed with his first-ever victory in Mexico, but when it comes to the title fight, the Englishman remains cool-headed. After his win, the McLaren driver stated that he is not counting his chickens after the dominant victory that put him in the lead in the World Championship.
“What a race,” Norris exclaimed afterwards in his initial reaction in Mexico City. He eventually won with a lead of 32 seconds over second-placed Charles Leclerc, closely followed by Max Verstappen. “I was able to focus well on what I had to do, for me it was straightforward, largely thanks to a good start. The first lap went without a hitch and after that, I could do my thing.”
The victory was not only deserved, it also meant that Norris has taken over the lead in the World Championship from teammate Oscar Piastri, who finished fifth. Yet, according to Norris, he is not letting it get to his head, as the lead is only one point. “I have to keep my head in the game and take it weekend by weekend.”
