On Sunday, Lando Norris saw one of his dreams come true at Silverstone: winning the British Grand Prix. “This is like a dream, and more,” said the McLaren driver after his home victory.
For years, he said, he watched English drivers like Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton play heroic roles on the Silverstone circuit in their own country. But today, it was Norris’ turn. “And this is so beautiful, wow. It’s everything I ever dreamed of and wanted to achieve. Apart from a championship, this is the best there is. I’m proud, happy, everything at once.”
There were certainly nerves, Norris admitted after the finish in Silverstone: “In the last laps, all I thought was: ‘Don’t mess it up now’. I looked a lot at the crowd, I enjoyed it. It was a race full of stress. But everyone was cheering, this is really very beautiful.”
The Briton did, however, benefit from a penalty for teammate Oscar Piastri. He initially led the race, until a ten-second penalty pushed him back behind Norris. Piastri still leads in the World Championship, with Norris in second place, trailing by just eight points.
