Lando Norris suffered a nose injury at Silverstone for the second time in two years. The McLaren driver was on his way to celebrate with his fans after his home victory when a photographer fell on Norris. The Brit jokes that he now has a permanent memento of his very first victory in his home country: ‘When I want to think of something great, I just look at my nose.’
Lando Norris claimed his first home race victory at Silverstone in early July. However, the LEGO trophy the Brit received for his win was not his only souvenir from the memorable weekend. After the podium ceremony, as Norris was heading towards his fans to celebrate the victory, a photographer fell from the barriers onto the newly crowned Grand Prix winner. Norris sustained injuries to his nose, but fortunately, his nose is healing well, as the McLaren driver reports in Belgium.
“This time my nose was repaired more professionally than then (in 2024),” says Norris. A year ago, the Brit had cut his nose on a beer bottle during King’s Day in Amsterdam. “But both incidents are great memories for me. So when I look in the mirror and want to think of something great, I just look at my nose. That’s a good thing.” The McLaren driver does regret that the injury to his nose prevented him from celebrating his victory with his fans at Silverstone. “I missed a bit of a beautiful moment.”
Norris not yet at desired level
The focus is already back on the Grand Prix weekend in Spa for the McLaren driver. Norris starts at the Belgian circuit with a great deal of confidence after his two consecutive victories in Austria and Great Britain. However, the Brit is not quite at the desired level yet. “Do I feel more confident that I can deliver more of those performances? Yes. Do I feel as good as last season and am I performing consistently at the same level? I still don’t think so.”
“I understand more of everything now, but we’re talking about very small things,” Norris adds. “Do I feel more of a threat (to championship leader Oscar Piastri)? Yes. But where I am now, where the car is, and how I can handle the car, that’s still not at the level I want.”
