Lando Norris doesn’t quite understand the uproar surrounding Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest race lap in Singapore. According to Norris, Ricciardo’s move is nothing new and such situations are part and parcel of Formula 1.

Ricciardo clinched the fastest race lap in the final stages of the Singapore GP, a move that has caused quite a stir, particularly at McLaren. Both CEO Zak Brown and team principal Andrea Stella are questioning whether Visa RB acted independently, or on behalf of Red Bull, to snatch the championship point from Lando Norris.

Norris himself is at peace with the actions of his former teammate. “I can’t do anything about it, good for him,” the Brit responds in the post-race press conference. “I did my best to drive a faster lap when my tires were in good condition (mid-race). But I can’t have them all. I’ve been doing my best to drive faster laps over the past weekends and more often than not, I’ve succeeded.”

The McLaren driver didn’t have the option to reclaim the fastest race lap from Ricciardo during the final stages. “I can’t beat someone on a new soft tire in the middle of a stint on a hard tire. That’s just life,” he says.

‘Nothing to Complain About’

Norris could use every point in his title fight with Max Verstappen, but according to the young Brit, it’s simply part of Formula 1 that competitors can snatch points from you. “That’s how it’s been in Formula 1 since, I don’t know, probably before I was born,” says Norris. “Nothing to complain about. We try to take it from others too.”
