Lando Norris, recently crowned world champion, is already looking ahead to who might succeed him. The British driver battled throughout the season with teammate Oscar Piastri among others for the title, until the Australian fell short by thirteen championship points in Abu Dhabi. Norris, who enjoyed the season partly due to his battles with his teammate, already promises Piastri: ‘He will become world champion’.

Only thirteen championship points ultimately separated the top three in the drivers’ championship. Lando Norris needed a lead of just two points over Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi to secure his first world title. Oscar Piastri – long-time leader in the drivers’ championship – ultimately fell short by thirteen points.

Immediately after securing his title in Abu Dhabi, Norris reflected on the performances of his two biggest rivals. “There were two guys who were pretty fast and they definitely made it difficult for me this year,” said the Brit. “From the first round, Oscar was clearly the toughest opponent to beat, and you can never underestimate Max. He is Max after all. We certainly never underestimated him and for anyone who might have, he proved them wrong. I’m glad we stayed alert and were prepared for such a situation, but it was a pleasure to compete against Max, a four-time world champion.”

World Champion Piastri?

The British world champion further explained why he enjoyed the past season so much, and casually made a prediction for his teammate. “For me, it was great to fight against Max and enjoy those moments, maybe not always, but some of them. Just to be on the track together and fight against another world champion like him, and of course also against Oscar, who will become world champion,” Norris concluded.
