Lando Norris seemed to be on track for an easy next podium finish in the dunes of Zandvoort, until his MCL39 failed in the final stages of the race. A dramatic day for the young driver, who not only lost a podium finish, but also saw valuable World Championship points go up in smoke.
“I don’t know if I’m on fire,” was the message from Lando Norris over the team radio. Not much later, the McLaren driver had to park his car on the side of the track. It was the end of the line for the title contender. It was also a dramatic day for Norris, who thereby missed out on valuable championship points. Max Verstappen inherited Norris’s second place, while Isack Hadjar is on track for his first podium finish. The race resumed after a brief safety car period.
