McLaren driver Lando Norris states that he is not overly concerned with his legacy in Formula 1. For the British racer, it’s more important to enjoy his motorsport career in the present moment, rather than pondering how he will be remembered by Formula 1 fans. “I feel like everyone eventually forgets anyway,” Norris candidly admits.
Lando Norris can look back with more than satisfaction on the last two Grands Prix. In Austria and his home country of Great Britain, the Brit not only claimed victory twice in a row, but he also defeated his teammate Oscar Piastri on both occasions. The same Piastri is Norris’ main rival for the world title this season, so it was crucial for the driver to close the gap in the drivers’ championship with his two recent victories over his teammate.
Legacy
This is the second season that Norris is truly competing for the world title. In 2024, he was defeated in the battle with Max Verstappen. Naturally, the McLaren driver hopes for a very different outcome of the current season a year later. But what happens after that, how Norris will be remembered in F1 history, matters less to the Brit. Norris admits to Rolling Stone that he is not so concerned with his legacy.
“The only thing I want people to know about me is what kind of person I was,” Norris shares. “I don’t really need to have a legacy or be remembered as one of the best drivers or anything. It’s just something I don’t worry about.” Instead, the British driver prefers to focus on the here and now. “Some people want to be remembered as the ‘best driver ever’. But I don’t know, I feel like everyone eventually forgets anyway. So for me, it doesn’t make sense. I don’t take pleasure in thinking about those things.”
