The British Grand Prix is the home race for several drivers on the current grid, including McLaren’s Lando Norris. However, the Brit is the only local hero who currently stands a good chance of winning the title, and is likely to have a significant number of fans in the stands at Silverstone to support him in his title fight with teammate Oscar Piastri. “I’ll try to wave to the fans as I drive by,” Norris promises ahead of his home race.
With another one-two finish in the bag after the Austrian Grand Prix, McLaren is also heading to Silverstone. The British Grand Prix weekend is not only a home race for the team itself, but also for local hero Lando Norris, who will have plenty of fans in his own grandstand. This is something the British driver is already greatly looking forward to. “Silverstone is already a special circuit, but having my family, friends, home fans, and so many people from the team there to support me takes it to another level,” Norris anticipates in the preview. “I’ll try to wave to the fans as I drive by, especially those in my own Lando grandstand.”
However, it’s not all celebration for the Brit, as he also needs to deliver another strong race. After Austria, Norris is only fifteen World Championship points behind championship leader and teammate Oscar Piastri. “That being said, this is another important race weekend and one where I want to get the maximum out of. After the result in Austria, I want to maintain that momentum this weekend and make sure we give our home fans something to cheer for.”
In Top Form
Piastri also hopes to maintain the momentum after Austria, especially as the pace of the MCL39 was encouraging at the Red Bull Ring. The driver finished in second place and crossed the finish line a good seventeen seconds ahead of Charles Leclerc, who finished third. “With a few good learning points under my belt, I’m in top form to give my best at the British GP,” says Piastri. “I’ve always been fortunate to receive a great reception at Silverstone and it’s cool to be part of the team’s home race.” Teammate Norris has already asked British fans to also support the Australian.
Team boss Andrea Stella is not only looking forward to the British GP, but also reflects on the entire 2025 season of McLaren so far. “We are officially halfway through the 2025 season. It’s a good time to reflect on our hard work, which has put us at the top in both championships, but also on all the challenging moments due to the fierce competition around us,” concludes the Italian. However, for Stella, there is no reason for McLaren to rest on its laurels. “We continue to focus on ourselves and our own performance, knowing that the rest of the season will require all our efforts in this incredibly competitive period of Formula 1.”
