Former Formula 1 driver Damon Hill believes it won’t stop at just one world title for Lando Norris. The 1996 world champion even predicts “three or four” championships for his countryman, although it remains a big question how hungry team‑mate Oscar Piastri will be for revenge: “Oscar will be determined to make sure Lando doesn’t beat him again.”
Lando Norris took his first world title at the recent Abu Dhabi GP. The Brit needed only a slim two‑point lead over Max Verstappen to secure the drivers’ championship. Norris thus became the eleventh British world champion, following the likes of Damon Hill. According to Hill, his countryman is likely to join an even more exclusive club in the years ahead.
“He’s done it and that’s hugely satisfying,” the 1996 Formula 1 world champion told the Stay on Track podcast. “He can relax to some extent now. It’s a question of how greedy you are to win. I always thought Michael (Schumacher, ed.) would be content with one, two, three, four or five championships, but then he went on to win another one or two. Some people are driven to pile up multiple titles. I definitely think Lando has more than one championship in him. Probably three or four.”
Piastri
Norris took the title after his teammate Oscar Piastri had spent the longest time leading the drivers’ championship. Hill therefore foresees that the Australian could well become the biggest obstacle to another title for his countryman. “Oscar is in the same team as Lando, and Oscar did not exactly underperform,” Hill says. “He will work out how he can prevent that happening again (losing the title, ed.). They both experienced a title fight with themselves and Max at the end. They’ll have taken a huge amount away from that.” Hill therefore predicts for McLaren for the upcoming season: “It will be a strong driver pairing, but there will be more determination within the team from Oscar to prevent Lando beating him again.”
