Lando Norris has called on Formula 1 fans to show more appreciation for George Russell. Recently, Russell has been under fire, with social media accusations claiming he’s being favored by Mercedes. Norris believes his 26-year-old competitor isn’t receiving the credit he deserves.
Mercedes even received a threatening email alleging that Russell’s teammate, Lewis Hamilton, is being deliberately sabotaged. Team boss Toto Wolff is accused of shunning the seven-time world champion because he’s leaving for Ferrari in 2025. The German racing stable has since contacted the police to find out who sent the message.
‘Nonsense’
Lando Norris believes it’s ‘nonsense’ that Hamilton would be sabotaged – the McLaren driver regrets that Russell isn’t receiving the appreciation he deserves. “Why would Mercedes want to steal points from their own driver?” he asked the press in Barcelona. “Of course, they can’t tell Hamilton everything because he’s going to Ferrari soon, but that’s normal in such a situation.”
“Russell is doing fantastic and people really need to start appreciating him more,” Norris continued. “This is his sixth season in Formula 1 – he’s here because he’s good enough. He’s incredibly fast. Lewis (Hamilton) is just as good, but he’s just made more mistakes recently.” Norris finds it strange that Russell is being blamed for something. “It’s nonsense, the people who say that have very little understanding of racing,” he laughed. “I just find it funny, but you have to keep respecting George (Russell).”
