Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren, has stated that the company is always striving to improve their cars through modifications, and thus he takes Lando Norris‘s complaints about the handling of the MCL39 seriously. Brown made these comments in China on Friday in response to Norris’s statements the previous day.

Many were surprised by Norris’s comments, including Max Verstappen. But it was no joke: Norris stated that, regardless of how fast the car is, it’s not enjoyable for him to drive the MCL39. “The car still doesn’t suit my driving style at all. But I’m almost at the point where you accept that you can’t have a perfect car.”

Brown responded to these comments in a press conference for team bosses the following day. “You always want to make the car easier for drivers to handle. We clearly have a fast car, but it’s also important that the drivers feel comfortable in it. What helps is that our two drivers are pushing each other to do even better. We want to develop in all areas.”

Therefore, adjustments must be made, according to the statements made by Norris and Brown. However, these changes should not come at the expense of the car’s speed, they logically argue at McLaren. Brown, for his part, is not counting his chickens before they hatch in terms of performance. “Let’s not forget that we’ve only had one race so far.”
