Lando Norris has expressed doubts about Carlos Sainz’s third-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix. After suffering a flat tire in the opening round, the Spaniard was allowed to restart in P3. Despite losing his position due to the damaged tire, the stewards didn’t make a fuss. His former teammate, however, finds this ‘unfair’.

Previously, Norris stated that Sainz had been ‘lucky’ with the red flag. He has since revised his opinion, questioning the fairness of the restart. “There must have been moments when I was lucky,” the Brit responded after the race. “But when you think about it, it’s just frustrating and unfair.”

Questioning the Rules

“Sainz just made a mistake,” Norris continued. “And yes, there are rules regarding the red flag that allowed him to make a pit stop and correct his mistake, blah, blah, blah. It’s just unfair.” If Sainz hadn’t been returned to third place, race winner Charles Leclerc would have had to compete against both Piastri and Norris, likely resulting in a very different podium.

Ferrari’s Success

With both Leclerc and Sainz on the podium, Ferrari did well in the principality. The Scuderia went home with 40 points, more than any other team. This was a blow for McLaren, which had been seriously competing for victories in the last three races. The British team currently sits in third place in the championship, 68 points behind their rivals from Maranello.
