Lando Norris knows that he must now score maximum points in every race if he wants a shot at the world title. The fact that Max Verstappen took the win in the sprint race in Austin, while he had to settle for third place, was not what he had hoped for. “My front tires were completely worn out,” he said.
The British driver started the race in fourth place but quickly moved up to second. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until he was attacked by the advancing Ferraris in the final phase. Eventually, he had to give up his position, and even a podium finish was in jeopardy.
“It was a good race, and I’m happy with how it ended,” Norris reflected afterwards. “I thought I could hold onto second place, but Carlos did well. My front tires were completely worn out, so I couldn’t do much more. In short, a disappointing end. But I don’t think we have the speed of Max and the Ferraris, so I’m satisfied with third place and we scored a good number of points.”
