The decision has been made: Lance Stroll will indeed participate in his home weekend in Canada. The Canadian missed the Grand Prix race in Spain after an old hand injury flared up again. Aston Martin was left with only one driver, Fernando Alonso, on the grid in Barcelona due to Stroll’s withdrawal, but can count on two cars again in Montreal.
Will Lance Stroll start the Grand Prix in his home country of Canada or not? This was the question all week. The driver unexpectedly withdrew from the main race after qualifying in Spain. An old injury to his right hand and wrist flared up again. Stroll broke his right hand in 2023 in a cycling accident during the winter break. The Canadian could not be replaced for the race because Stroll had qualified on Saturday.
On the Wednesday before the GP Canada, Aston Martin announced via social media channels that the Canadian driver will indeed race his home race. “I’m excited to get back behind the wheel for my home race this weekend,” Stroll himself says in the press release. “I would have always fought hard to be able to race for the audience in Montreal. I feel good after my treatment and have also been able to do a few laps at Paul Ricard (circuit in France) this week to prepare. Thanks for all the support and I’ll see you all this weekend!”
Bad news for Drugovich
Stroll’s return, just in time for his home race, is bad news for test and reserve driver Felipe Drugovich. The Brazilian had indicated that he would even sacrifice his participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend to get a chance in Formula 1. Drugovich can now participate in the 24-hour race for the Cadillac team.
