Joseph Kosinski, director of the successful F1: The Movie, has confirmed that discussions are underway with producer Apple about a possible sequel. The blockbuster, starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, was the cinema hit of last summer. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer had already hinted at a sequel, but now Kosinski also seems enthusiastic.

Thanks in part to the enormous success of the first Formula 1 film, there is much talk of a sequel. F1: The Movie grossed more than 630 million euros worldwide and is now the most successful film in Brad Pitt’s illustrious career. American Variety asked Kosinski about the possibilities for a second part. “We are in the phase where we are wondering what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes could be,” he responded.

“But given the reactions from all over the world to this film, it is clear that people want to see a sequel,” he added. “I would love to do it again, because we had so much fun making this first film.” For F1: The Movie, scenes were shot with real racing cars during real Grand Prix weekends. As a result, many existing Formula 1 drivers and team bosses had a cameo.

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently confirmed that he has also had discussions with Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion worked as an executive producer on the film and ensured as realistic a picture of Formula 1 as possible. “We are definitely talking about a sequel,” Cook revealed. “F1: The Movie was really a huge hit for us. We are so proud of it. The talent involved is of such a high level.”
