Mercedes has confirmed that Kimi Antonelli was involved in a traffic accident near his home in San Marino last weekend. The 19-year-old driver emerged uninjured from the incident, which did not involve any other vehicles. According to a local police report, the car — reportedly his brand-new Mercedes supercar — struck a guardrail at the roadside. Antonelli is still scheduled to take part in the pre-season tests in Bahrain later this week.
In an official statement Mercedes clarified the situation. “Last Saturday evening Kimi (Antonelli, ed.) was involved in a traffic accident near his home in San Marino,” the statement read. “Police attended after Kimi called the emergency services. Only his own car was involved in the incident and although the vehicle suffered damage, Kimi remained completely unharmed.”

Antonelli was reportedly driving the exclusive Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+, a model of which only 200 examples were built worldwide. A few days earlier the young Italian had posed with his new car on Mercedes’ social channels. “New year, new company car for Kimi,” the caption read. The extent of the damage to the car remains unclear.
The incident has so far had no impact on his test programme ahead of the new season. Antonelli has since travelled to Bahrain, where the first official pre-season test of 2026 begins on Wednesday. He is expected to climb straight into the W17 for the opening day’s afternoon session.
