Kevin Magnussen is not ready to bid farewell to Formula 1 just yet. It was revealed earlier on Thursday that Magnussen will be parting ways with Haas at the end of 2024. Consequently, the Danish driver is already in talks with other teams to continue his Formula 1 career in 2025. However, these discussions are somewhat complicated by the racing ban that still looms over his head.

News broke on Thursday that Magnussen will be leaving Haas at the end of 2024. This leaves his presence in Formula 1 next year uncertain. Regardless, Magnussen is doing everything he can to continue his motorsport career. “Yes, I am. Absolutely,” the Dane responds when asked by the media if he is in talks with other teams.

Magnussen’s Departure from Haas: Not Entirely Voluntary

Magnussen’s exit from Haas was not entirely voluntary. Although the driver leaves the team without any hard feelings, stating that “things just happen in F1”, he candidly admits that he would have liked to continue with the Haas project. “That would have been interesting. But I think there are also other interesting projects. There are still seats available in F1. Of course, Carlos (Sainz) is still holding up that process, but eventually, there will be movement,” explains the Dane. Sainz, like Magnussen, does not yet have a contract for 2025. The Spaniard, however, has previously indicated that he is taking his time with his decision.

Magnussen Close to a Racing Ban

In addition to securing a seat for the next season, Magnussen also has to worry about the racing ban that still looms over his head. The Haas driver has accumulated ten penalty points on his license in just five races this year. Magnussen received most of his penalty points for incidents with other drivers. For instance, Magnussen collided with Pérez in Monaco and engaged in a battle with Hamilton in Miami.

“I just have to race as well as possible and not change anything because of this situation,” Magnussen outlined his strategy for the rest of 2024. “I think that’s generally better for the season than constantly holding back and making sure I don’t get a racing ban. It’s better to just go for it and if I then get a racing ban, then I get a racing ban.”
