Jos Verstappen, along with his co-pilot Renaud Jamoul, concluded the Historic Rally of Corsica in fifth place in the so-called H1 class and 21st place in the overall standings. The team, bearing the starting number 33, had already received a hefty time penalty of ten minutes on Friday, as they appeared fifteen minutes late at the start of the eleventh trial. This imposed sanction greatly influenced their final ranking.
The finish line of the 24th edition of the ‘Tour de Corse Historique’ was in Por-Vecchio on the French island of Corsica on Saturday. Verstappen and Jamoul competed in a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RS. The vehicle, a 330 horsepower, 930 kilogram rear-wheel drive car, lacked electronic aids such as ABS. For Verstappen, it was his first time participating in the renowned historic rally.
“It was a big challenge, but we enjoyed it,” Jos Verstappen shared after the finish. “We learned a lot, including how to make pace notes. These kinds of roads are completely new to us. It was difficult to drive the Porsche over the bumps. It was also my first time driving a classic car in a rally, which was very different from what I’m used to. In short, we gained a lot of experience. We reached the finish line, which was important to us. It was a pleasure to drive in Corsica, a challenging rally, so we’ll probably be back here next year.”
