Dutch sim racer Jarno Opmeer has made history by securing the Formula 1 Esports World Championship title for the third time. Opmeer, who races for Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing, clinched the title after an exciting final race in Stockholm, Sweden.

Opmeer started the final race of the season from 14th position, but skillfully worked his way up to finish seventh, which was enough to secure the title. With this victory, he adds a third world championship to his impressive list of achievements, following previous titles in 2020 and 2021 when he was racing for Mercedes.

With this accomplishment, Opmeer solidifies his position as one of the most successful drivers in the history of the Formula 1 Esports Series. His three world titles surpass the two championships of Brendon Leigh, making Opmeer the most successful driver in the competition.

Switch from Mercedes to Red Bull

Ahead of this season, Opmeer joined Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing. Partly because he could settle back in the Netherlands after years of living in England. “But also because I could consistently train a lot for the season here and didn’t have to do too many other things,” said the Dutchman.

In addition, Opmeer was paired with a very fast teammate, Frederik Rasmussen. “He is very fast and, of course, became a world champion for a reason. It’s nice to have a good benchmark, which is very important in F1 esports. Not only do you know if you’re pushing the limit, but it’s also useful when trying out setups.”

The direct link with the renowned Team Redline also provided an advantage. “There are many experienced sim racers at Team Redline, like Atze Kerkhof. It certainly helps to work with guys who have been in this world for a long time. It’s nice because you know you can engage in high-level discussions, and that’s just a step up.”

Prize Pool of 750,000 Dollars

In addition to Opmeer’s individual success, Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing also clinched the constructors’ title. This is the third time the team has won this title in the eight-year history of the competition. With this double victory, Opmeer also secures a handsome prize pool of a whopping 750,000 dollars for the team. “A large part goes to the team and teammates, but it’s a nice amount!”
