Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve observes that Lewis Hamilton no longer possesses the right mindset to perform well. The British driver was already off the track in the third lap of the American Grand Prix. Villeneuve advises the seven-time world champion to change his mindset before his move to Ferrari.

The race at the Circuit of the Americas was short-lived for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion was already in the gravel trap in the third lap, after spinning out in a race for the first time in his Formula 1 career. Former world champion Jacques Villeneuve advises Hamilton to change his mentality before his departure to Ferrari.

“I don’t think Lewis is thinking about Ferrari. He’s thinking about himself and how badly things are going for him,” Villeneuve begins his analysis, speaking to Canada Casino. “That was the first time he really shot off the track in that way during a race. He’s really not in a good place. That’s not good for his driving. He needs to get out of that mindset before he goes to Ferrari.”

Hamilton also experienced a series of lesser results at the beginning of the season, but the seven-time world champion bounced back with two victories just before the summer break. “It’s hard when you have so many races in a row. You don’t really have time to change, but he’s just had three weeks off and he hasn’t come back better,” Villeneuve continues. “I have no idea what’s going on in his head, but he’ll be glad that Ferrari has a better car than Mercedes. He’s going to a better car and in that respect, he should be happy.”

Finding Form Again

Whether Ferrari is also happy with the current situation at Hamilton, Villeneuve questions. According to the Canadian, the Brit does not have the ‘body language’ of a race winner. “He’s no longer that killer of a winner we’ve seen in the past. He needs to regain his old form and attitude before he moves, because Ferrari is not an easy team,” concludes the former F1 driver.
