As Esteban Ocon officially enters his final season with Alpine, reserve driver Jack Doohan sees an opportunity to ascend to Formula 1. The Australian is a top contender to replace Ocon from 2025. Following the announcement of the Frenchman’s dismissal, Alpine revealed that Doohan will participate in a free practice session for the team in Canada.
Is this a Prelude to 2025?
Esteban Ocon will have to relinquish his Alpine to reserve driver Jack Doohan during the first free practice session in Montreal. This move allows Alpine to meet the rookie requirements of Formula 1 – each team must deploy a rookie twice in a training session per season. For the team, it’s also an opportunity to see Doohan in action again. The 21-year-old driver has already taken on multiple training sessions and recently stepped into the A522 during a test day at Zandvoort.
Doohan’s Anticipation
Doohan, who plans to focus entirely on a successful test this Friday, is grateful for the opportunity Alpine is providing. “I can’t wait to drive in Montreal,” he shares. “This is the first time I’ll be racing on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. I want to do my best for the team and make the most of the test laps.”
Doohan’s Background
The 21-year-old Australian originally comes from the Red Bull talent pool. He is the son of motorcycle racer Mick Doohan and has been a junior member of the Enstone team since 2022. Last year, he finished third in the Formula 2 championship.
