On Wednesday, the town of Imola and its F1 circuit will commemorate the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger with a series of events. It marks exactly thirty years since Senna died from a horrifying crash at Imola. A day earlier, Ratzenberger had tragically lost his life during the Grand Prix qualifiers.
In collaboration with the Instituto Ayrton Senna, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and the Emilia-Romagna Region, the town of Imola has prepared an extensive program for the day to honor both drivers.
At 14:17 UST, the exact time of Senna’s accident in the Tamburello curve in 1994, a minute of silence will be observed. Dignitaries will lay flowers near the crash site as a tribute to the Brazilian driver. Among those present will be Italian Minister Antonio Tajani (Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation), his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira (Foreign Affairs), his Austrian counterpart Alexander Schallenberg (Foreign Affairs), the Mayor of Imola Marco Panieri, circuit chairman Gian Carlo Minardi, and Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
Following the ceremony, the delegation will move to the Villeneuve curve, where Ratzenberger crashed, to pay their respects in the same manner.
Flag Parade in the Morning
In the morning, at 09:30 UST, a flag parade is scheduled: a walk dedicated to Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger, with an invitation to all participants to wear the colors of the Brazilian and Austrian flags. Throughout the day, there will be numerous other activities. The full program of the event can be found at www.ayrton-senna.it.
