Helmut Marko, a key figure at Red Bull, has dismissed rumors that Red Bull Powertrains is falling behind schedule. Red Bull is set to manufacture its own engines from 2026, and with Ford’s assistance, is currently developing this new engine. Marko urges people not to believe the rumors that the engine development at the Austrian team is not going well.
Significant changes are on the horizon for Red Bull Racing in 2026. Not only will new regulations be introduced, but Red Bull Ford Powertrains will also become one of the six engine suppliers. The Austrian team previously collaborated with Honda, but from 2026, Honda will supply engines to Aston Martin.
However, doubts exist about whether the engine development at Red Bull is proceeding as planned. Rumors suggest that there are even major internal concerns at Red Bull about the engine project, and Mercedes rival Toto Wolff has previously expressed his doubts. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko insists that everything related to the new engine is going according to plan. “Guess who’s spreading these rumors?” Marko seems to hint at Wolff, “We are exactly on schedule.”
Helmut Marko’s Stance on Red Bull Powertrains
Helmut Marko reiterated his previous statement that there is no ‘plan B’ should the new engine not work as desired. “Our engine must work immediately or start working,” said the 81-year-old Marko. “There are so many factors involved, such as fuel and the battery. It will be exciting to see who will really lead the race. Regarding horsepower, we will definitely be there.”
Red Bull’s Collaboration with Ford
Red Bull will not be entirely alone in 2026, as the team will receive assistance from American car manufacturer Ford. Team boss Christian Horner is extremely pleased with the collaboration. “They have not forced or imposed anything on us,” Horner told Sky Sports. “They said: ‘here is our candy store, our facilities and resources. How can we help you?’ This has been extremely useful, especially as we were improving our own facilities and resources.”
