Lewis Hamilton is visibly downcast following the Spanish Grand Prix. Starting from P5, with the aim of reaching the podium, the Brit ultimately finishes in sixth place. The Ferrari driver’s season has been far from impressive, but the race in sun-drenched Barcelona is even labelled by the seven-time world champion as his ‘worst race’ since the start of his Ferrari journey.

Lewis Hamilton qualified in fifth place for the Spanish Grand Prix, with teammate Charles Leclerc behind him in P7. Hamilton managed to overtake George Russell at the start, but couldn’t prevent Leclerc from taking the fourth position within a few laps.

After his second pit stop, he fell behind Russell. As if that wasn’t enough, he was also overtaken by Nico Hülkenberg in the Sauber at the restart. Thanks to Max Verstappen‘s ten-second time penalty, Hamilton moved up to P6, but that couldn’t bring a smile to the face of the seven-time world champion. “Not special, it’s just not a great day. Just not a great day,” he repeated in front of the Sky Sports F1 camera. “I just had a very bad day and I have nothing to say. It was a tough day, there’s nothing more to add, it was terrible. There’s no point in explaining, it’s not your fault, I just don’t know what else to say.”

Worst Race

The past two races seemed to finally be going in the right direction for Lewis Hamilton. In Imola, he drove from P6 to a commendable fourth place: his best Sunday result of the season. In Monaco, he qualified in fourth place, but due to a three-place grid penalty, he had to start in seventh. Yet, he managed to finish the race in the narrow streets of Monte Carlo in fifth place, his second-best result of 2025.

When asked if there was anything positive to take away from the weekend, Hamilton’s answer to the media present in Barcelona was tellingly short: “Zero (things). “This is the worst race I’ve experienced.”
