In the lead-up to the Monaco Grand Prix, Formula 1 drivers had the opportunity to admire the new film F1. During a special preview, they saw themselves – and primarily stars Brad Pitt and Damson Idris – shine on the big screen. Lewis Hamilton has served as the executive producer for the project over the past two years. The Brit is proud of his Hollywood debut and revealed that F1 will certainly not be his last production.

“Let me start by saying that this was not the first time I saw the film,” Hamilton said with a laugh. “I think I’ve really seen it twenty times already. But to sit in that cinema with all the other drivers – I was quite nervous. But it was great to see the reactions of the others. I care a lot about the opinions of the other drivers, I want them to appreciate the film as well. Afterwards, I definitely asked them for their opinions, although I think the most important thing is that the sound and the image are really very good. I’m certainly proud of that.”

Hamilton in a Writer’s Role

“At the beginning of the film, you naturally see all the film studios and production houses that have contributed,” he continued. “It was very strange to then also see Dawn Apollo (Hamilton’s new studio) pass by. Not much later I am credited as a producer – that was even stranger,” the Englishman laughed. In the future, Hamilton hopes to delve further into the film world. He revealed that he already has a number of projects on the shelf.

“I’m definitely going to produce more films,” Hamilton responded when asked. “Of course, F1 was immediately a very high aim,” he added with a laugh. Reportedly, the film had a production budget of about 300 million dollars. “At the moment I am working on three different projects, where I am also actively co-writing,” Hamilton finally revealed. “Two of them are animations, and the beginnings of a script are already ready for the third.” Series around Formula 1 – think of the ever-popular Drive to Survive – do little for Hamilton. “I also want to make documentaries, but the film format is really the most important to me.”
