This week, Lewis Hamilton embarked on his new role at Ferrari. The British driver decided to make the switch to the Italian team after more than ten years of successful collaboration with Mercedes. “Call it instinct or a gut feeling, but I knew that signing with Ferrari was the right step for me,” reveals Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton caused quite a stir in the Italian town of Maranello this week. The Brit began his new job as a Ferrari driver, and the streets of the entire municipality turned red with the many tifosi eager to witness the event. However, the whole adventure began with a ‘gut feeling’ from the seven-time world champion.
“Ultimately, every new opportunity is a leap into the unknown,” Hamilton shares in a LinkedIn newsletter. “None of us can predict the future, so changing jobs, or in my case, teams, always comes with a certain risk. But I believe there is a greater risk in staying somewhere you feel comfortable and becoming complacent.”
Gut Feeling
On Wednesday morning, Hamilton drove thirty laps on Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit. Perhaps the biggest Ferrari transfer since Michael Schumacher joined the Italian team in 1996 took place due to a ‘feeling’ from Hamilton. “Call it instinct or a gut feeling, but I knew that signing with Ferrari was the right step for me and that it would provide the challenge I needed,” concludes the Brit.”
