Lewis Hamilton, in his brief tenure as a Ferrari driver, has for the second time secured a position ahead of his teammate Charles Leclerc on the starting grid. The driver will commence the Spanish Grand Prix in fifth place, which gives Hamilton hope for a result he has not yet achieved in a main race in 2025: ‘My goal is a podium finish.’

The last time Lewis Hamilton stood on the podium for a main race was during the GP Las Vegas last year. The Brit, then still in service of Mercedes, crossed the finish line in second place. So far in his first season with Ferrari, Hamilton has had success in the sprint races – the world champion won the shortened race in China and came third in the sprint in Miami – but a podium finish on a Sunday still eludes him. However, the driver aims to change this in Spain.

“My goal is to try to reach the podium,” says Hamilton after the qualification in Barcelona. “I haven’t been on the podium for a long time.” The driver will start the Spanish Grand Prix in fifth place, standing on the third starting row next to his replacement at Mercedes, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and behind former teammate George Russell. “It’s a long way to turn 1. You saw the start George had here last year. I’m going to try to make just as good a start. After that, it’s all about managing the tires, which is a challenge,” continues the Brit.

‘Every Weekend is Completely New’

Hamilton has already completed eight races behind the wheel of the SF-25, but it is only the second time in Spain that he has beaten his teammate Charles Leclerc in the qualification. According to the Brit, he is still getting used to the Ferrari vehicle. “Every weekend I come to the circuit with the team for the first time. The car is so different from what I drove in previous years,” explains the seven-time world champion. “So during the weekend, I have to adapt to this new driving style again, which is terrible, it’s not a pleasant driving style. Yet I adapt to these circuits every time. But I love that everything is completely new every weekend.”
