How does Lewis Hamilton mentally and physically prepare for a new Formula 1 season? The seven-time world champion now answers this question himself, sharing his extensive training routine ahead of the 2026 season. Particularly, ice baths are indispensable for Hamilton.
Lewis Hamilton has concluded a first season without achieving a podium finish during a Grand Prix. The Ferrari driver therefore said after the GP Abu Dhabi that he was greatly looking forward to the winter break, and to be completely away from the Formula 1 scene for a while. Yet, the seven-time world champion is not idle, and he is already busy with his training for the 2026 season.
Hamilton reveals to Men’s Health what his new training routine for 2026 exactly entails. “My routine has changed, advanced, evolved,” explains the seven-time F1 champion. “I still love running – I ran this morning. I ran a distance between six and eight miles. Then an ice bath. But before I do that, stretching is the first thing I do as soon as I get out of bed. In the afternoon, I might do a HIIT session, but I can’t really use too many weights, because otherwise I get too heavy. So usually I do Pilates and yoga.”
Ice Baths
One element that is always included in Carlos Sainz Jr‘s training, no matter how busy he may be, is ice baths. “Ice baths. Recovery is something I never really focused on in the past. I would just do my training and then carry on with my day. So stretching and ice baths – those are the two things I now impose on myself.” The Ferrari driver reveals that ice baths and training in general also help him stay mentally sharp and positive. “When I was younger, training was really my therapy – and it still is, especially running. That’s where I do most of my thinking.”
