Despite a disappointing season for Ferrari, team boss Frédéric Vasseur remains positive about the collaboration with Lewis Hamilton. According to the Frenchman, the Brit is increasingly finding his place within the team and is also starting to find more speed in the SF-25.
Hamilton is making his debut with Ferrari in 2025, after a long period with Mercedes. The transition has not been without bumps: the season has so far been rough. However, Vasseur saw a clear turnaround with Hamilton around the race weekend in Spain. “I would say that he really became stronger around Barcelona. He is feeling more and more at home in the team,” the team boss told The Athletic.
This year, Ferrari is the only team in the top four of the constructors’ championship that has not yet won a race. The team and the SF-25 made both strategic and technical mistakes in several races. Yet Vasseur sees no reason to panic. “Lewis came in with huge expectations and motivation,” he explains. “In the beginning, it was – as we say in French – tout neuf: everything is still beautiful and new. Then you sometimes have to put things into perspective and find peace.”
Step by Step
Ferrari currently ranks third in the constructors’ championship with 298 points, followed by Red Bull with 290 points. The team hopes to take over the second place from competitor Mercedes, which has a lead of 27 points with 325 points. Vasseur acknowledges that Ferrari still needs to make strides and sees that Mercedes is stronger in certain areas. “They do some things better, but we have the advantage in other areas. The task now is to get everything in line. We need to continue to improve step by step.”
